60 Mexican freight trains stopped due to the influx of migrants outside

Brian Rodriguez, September 20, 2023

The Mexican railway company Ferromex has suspended the trips of 60 freight trains in the country. Thousands of immigrants used these trains to travel to the US border.

Nearly 4,300 people were on board trains or at Verumex sites in various cities. The company says this has led to fatal accidents in recent days. For safety reasons, Ferromex will temporarily not operate dozens of flights. The 60 participating trains have a capacity similar to 1,800 trucks.

Thousands of migrants have used Mexican freight trains to move north in recent years. Several people were killed and injured.

The company warned that reduced rail capacity could have an impact on production or supply chains. Ferromex wants the government to come up with a solution.
