The Aemet weather service issued four different warnings for the provinces of Valencia and Castellón: heavy rainfall, storms, strong winds and coastal phenomena. The severe weather will begin with rain overnight Friday into Saturday, but heavy rain is expected from 10 a.m.

    Orange warning

Aemet has issued an orange warning for heavy rainfall that could reach 40 liters per hour or even between 60 and 70 liters in a 3-4 hour period. In addition to heavy rainfall, hail showers and very strong wind gusts may also occur.

“On Saturday, we expect skies to be cloudy or partly cloudy throughout the day with rain and storms that may be locally heavy to very heavy,” Emmett said. Both Valencia and Castellón will be placed under a double yellow warning due to rainfall of 30 liters in one hour, storms accompanied by hail and very strong wind gusts. As of 10 a.m., this warning will be raised to orange warning level.

In addition, a noticeable drop in maximum temperatures is also expected: up to 6 degrees lower in 24 hours.

Bad weather will also continue on Sunday

There are no final warnings for Sunday, but forecasts call for continued bad weather with rain reaching new peaks around 10am. Wind speeds may reach between 70 and 80 km/h, and coastal phenomena are expected in the afternoon.

The situation remained unclear on Monday

The situation remains unclear as of Monday. Although the worst of DANA may be over, there is still a chance of rain, especially in Valencia. Cloudy periods are expected in the rest of the Valencian region, with a low possibility of scattered rain.

With these forecasts, it is recommended to closely monitor all local warnings and weather forecasts and take the necessary precautions.

Valencia closes parks and gardens due to the approaching storm

The City of Valencia announced that it will close all parks and fenced gardens in response to the impending Dana Orange Warning. This measure It takes effect if the orange warning persists. As a result, the lockdown measure is expected to take effect on Saturday morning.

The Valencia City Council said parks and gardens will reopen once the orange warning is lifted. However, this may change depending on Aemet’s updates and developments surrounding the storm.

It is common city practice to close parks and walled gardens when Aemet activates an orange or red alert for the area. Through this measure, the city hopes to reduce any risks to citizens.

112 Sends messages to mobile phones in case of danger

The emergency number 112 will send a message to mobile phones in the Valencia area during Operation DANA in the event of an “immediate danger.”

Elisa Núñez, Minister of Justice and Home Affairs of the State of Valenciana, confirmed that the ES Public Alert System will be activated, which will allow warnings to be sent to residents present in an area affected by emergencies or disasters.

“Thanks to ES Alert, the citizen does not have to call the emergency number 112 himself to find out if there is an active emergency in his area; it will be the 112 number itself that warns the citizen of the immediate danger in his municipality, so that they can protect themselves or take action,” she said.

Likewise, the Emergency Department recommends downloading the “GVA 112 Avisos” app so that everyone can know the actual danger situation in real time. It is recommended to use Calculate X from Aemet Follow for weather updates.
