Skaters fell through the snow at several different locations in the Netherlands on Friday. In Liergouw in Amsterdam-Nord, the fire brigade for Liergouw in Amsterdam-North responded by pulling a skier out of the water with an extendable ladder there. This person was recovering at the district hospital.

Also in Loosdrecht, a person was hospitalized with hypothermia after falling through the snow at Vontosplatz. Near De Meent in Breukelen, firefighters also helped pull a surfer ashore. The security district of Utrecht announced that there were several more calls to emergency services to rescue skiers from the water on Friday.

Omroep Brabant reports that several skiers fell across the ice on the Spinhuiswal in Den Bosch on Friday afternoon. It is believed that the three are a father and his two children. They were able to get to shore on their own.

Security districts have warned people to be careful when venturing onto the snow, because the stability of the snow is still far from reliable everywhere. The municipality of Overijssel in Steenwijkerland has told people that they should not go out on natural ice. According to the municipality, the ice is very thin in many places, and snowboarding can be life-threatening, because rescuers have to travel long distances for such situations.

The Dutch Ski Association KNSB also advised against open water skiing at least on Friday night. The National Media Institute (KNMI) predicted that sub-zero temperatures are still likely on Saturday and Sunday.

After that, temperatures will be above 0 degrees all day starting Monday. Since then it has been raining heavily.
