The Associated Press reported that Democrat Raphael Warnock won the decisive round of the election to fill a seat in the Senate from the US state of Georgia. This gives the Democrats a 51-seat majority in the Senate, compared to the Republicans’ 49.

Incumbent Sen. Warnock beat Republican Herschel Walker, a former NFL player who was emphatically supported by Donald Trump, in the second round. In last month’s midterm congressional elections, none of the candidates managed to win a majority. Now, according to the Associated Press, Black Reverend Warnock stands at 50.9 percent to Walker’s 49.1 percent after 96 percent of the ballots were counted.
The 51st seat gives Democrats President Joe Biden more room to implement his plans. At 50-50, Vice President Kamala Harris’ vote should have been the deciding factor, and Democrats can’t afford a single sleeper in the Senate.
