It was not surprising for a long time: Xi Jinping would remain in office for a third term as leader of the Communist Party of China. That became clear yesterday at the conclusion of the party convention. Although it was expected, it was still pretty cool. But perhaps the most exciting and mysterious thing was what happened the day before at the party convention. Just before Xi’s speech, the man seated next to him, his predecessor, former President Hu Jintao, was led in front of the cameras.
