As early as the spring, there were frequent reports that Google was giving Android users a hands-on job. In the future, it will be possible to free up storage space on the smartphone more easily by simply archiving applications. But how is it?

More storage space on your smartphone: Google plans it

Even if smartphones bring so much storage space from home these days, they will eventually be exhausted. Or all the content on your phone is making it slow. Google wants to make it easier to free up memory in the future. This should work with the help of an archive in which you can transfer applications that you do not use in everyday life. A similar function is already known from Apple iPhones, where you can “outsource” applications.

Above all, this has one special advantage: your data is not lost in the process. Unlike uninstalling the app from your smartphone. At least the most important data should be kept in the archive; The function deletes 60 percent of the data used up to that point.

So far, Google has only announced the feature. However, it now appears to be in the middle of the testing phase. Because a video on Twitter shows how the archiving function on Android looks and works. So it is not excluded that it will be released this year.

Here’s how to archive apps soon on Android

According to the video, the archive function can only be used via the Google Play Store. In other words, the option is not available directly on the main screen, like Uninstall.

So once you are in the Play Store, you click on your profile picture and go to “Manage apps and devices” and then to the “Manage” menu item. In this area, you can see all the applications installed on your Android phone. You can click on all those apps that you want to archive. Once you make the selection, tap on Archive and certain parts of the app will be deleted from your smartphone.

Even if an app is archived, you can still see it in the app drawer and an additional cloud icon. If you want to use the entire application again, click on this cloud icon and the cell phone will download all the necessary data again. Then the settings are restored the way you set them.
