Amazon shareholders know: The Prime subscription service is a cash machine for the tech group and new customers deserve gold for Prime. Amazon has now reported a record number of new subscribers: Last Thursday, the company booked more new customers in just three hours than ever before.

The reason for running on subscriptions is an NFL event Thursday night football game. According to an internal email, the broadcast overshadowed even top sales events like Cyber Monday and Prime Day in terms of registrations.

Amazon holds exclusive rights to broadcast Thursday’s NFL games. The deal, for which the technology group paid $13 billion, will last 11 years.

It is not known how many new customers Amazon counts. “While we are still waiting for the official ratings from Nielsen, our measurement shows that viewership has exceeded all of our viewership expectations,” said Jay Marin, CEO of Amazon.

In addition to the NFL deal, Amazon launched another streaming feature in 2022: “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” The series cost the company more than a billion dollars. The start was promising: 25 million viewers streamed on the first day.

Prime will be more attractive thanks to the higher content – the number of users should increase exponentially as a result. On the one hand, this brings in an Amazon annual fee of $139, and on the other hand, Prime members demand more than twice what regular Amazon customers ask for. Amazon remains an obvious buy, especially for long-term investors.
