In the field of innovations and sustainability in agriculture and horticulture, there are many opportunities for Dutch agri-food companies and knowledge institutions to collaborate more closely with partners in the UK. This is the conclusion after a visit by a delegation from the British agricultural technology sector to the Netherlands at the end of May.

Agtech Tour Participants: Left to Right: Ernst van den Ende (WUR), Philip de Jong, Maarten Schweers (RVO), Professor Richard Tiffin (Agrimetrics, Uni of Reading), James Allen (New Anglia LEP), Bas Harbers ( back), Claire Mike (Liv, front), Dr. .

The British participants are excited about the close collaboration in the Netherlands between companies and between business and government and research/education. They see plenty of opportunities for “abroad” cooperation. The tour was a follow-up to a report previously prepared by the Agricultural Team in London on post-Brexit opportunities in the British agricultural technology sector in the Netherlands. “The tour was supposed to take place earlier, but was postponed due to Covid-19,” says the Agricultural Council Philippe de Jong. The Netherlands and the United Kingdom face similar challenges in making agriculture more sustainable, but also necessary differences in approach. We are looking at where and how we can compliment each other.”
