The mutilated body of a man shot by an alligator was found on the edge of a lake in Florida on Tuesday. Sean McGuinness, 47, was known for searching the lake for his missing Frisbee despite “no swimming” warning signs, which he then sold.
McGuinness’s body, with his arm bitten off, was discovered by a person walking his dog along a lake in John S. Taylor Park in Largo, about 15 miles northwest of Saint Petersburg. Park director Paul Cozy said park rangers have already removed two alligators believed to be possible culprits.
Park rangers had previously warned McGuinness to stay away from the lake and had threatened to beat him. All of that didn’t stop him from getting into the water early in the morning on the last day of his life, the part of the day that Cosie described as “peak time” for alligator activity. In addition, this is the middle of the reptile’s mating season, when male crocodiles display more territorial and aggressive behavior than usual, the zoo director said.
For example, McGuinness became the first human victim of an alligator in Florida since 2019. Cozy said another man who did the same thing as McGuinness at the same park a few years ago was bitten in the face by an alligator, but survived.
