The United States reiterated its support for Morocco, and considered the kingdom’s plan for desert autonomy to be a “realistic” solution.

The US State Department spokesman referred to the meeting held in Washington between Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his counterpart Anthony Blinken, and indicated that the United States “is considering the Moroccan autonomy plan seriously and credibly, and that it is realistic.”

In the same context, the two sides expressed their support for the new Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Staffan de Mistura, in leading the political process related to the Sahara to be held under the auspices of the United Nations.

The ministry spokesman said that in addition to the Sahara issue, Bourita and Blinken referred to a “very important” tripartite agreement between the United States, Morocco and Israel.

They welcomed, in this regard, the “first anniversary of the joint declaration between Morocco, Israel and the United States, now on December 22.
