    From Australia to Morocco

You may have heard of the World Solar Challenge (WSC). It is a global solar car racing championship held every year in Australia. Well, not this year. Because of COVID, the WSC decided to cancel the race eight months ago. This came as a shock to the candidates, since most of the cars were already under development. To make the hard work still pay off, the teams organized an alternate race at an entirely different location.

The preference was for Morocco. There was less chance of the strict halo rules, and not unimportantly, more chance of the sun. However, this step was not entirely helpful. The Moroccan road is more hilly than the road in Australia. Some sections of the trail have a 12 percent gradient. Cars weren’t built on those slopes. And this is also very economical: at a speed of 80 km / h, the race car consumed as much energy as a toaster.
