New Zealand temporarily managed to reduce the number of coronavirus cases to zero in the past year. But the outbreak of a highly contagious delta variant threw a wrench in the works in August.

“With this outbreak and with the delta changing, it’s very difficult to go back to zero,” Ardern said at a news conference. “This is a change in approach that we have always wanted to make over time. However, the outbreak of Delta Disease has accelerated that shift.”

In recent weeks, there has been much criticism from the opposition for its adherence to the containment strategy, which has also been used in countries such as China, Singapore and Taiwan.

    Zero Covid

There are a lot of international divisions over the idea of ”Zero Covid” because countries like Australia and New Zealand will use it to legitimize blanket control measures. For example, in some Australian states, it is now common for those traveling between different regions to be quarantined and can be called in at any time to take a selfie at home, with facial recognition technology linked to the location. At the same time, the model results in intense but shorter shutdowns, and there’s hardly any aura as it gets crushed instantly and hard. As a result, care did not collapse.

On Monday, 29 new cases of coronavirus were reported. The majority of cases occur in Auckland, which has been on lockdown for nearly 50 days because the state is taking drastic measures in the event of the smallest outbreak. This is now being phased out. Ardern emphasized that the current vaccination campaign should support the new strategy. According to the government website, 67 percent of people in New Zealand over the age of 12 have had a single shot so far. 40% were fully vaccinated.
