A 64-year-old man, who allegedly used a saw and a latch cutter to escape from an Australian prison nearly 30 years ago, turned himself in. This was stated by the New South Wales Police on Wednesday.

The 35-year-old escaped from a prison in Grafton, 600 kilometers north of Sydney, between July 31 and August 1, 1992. “At that time we were unable to locate the man,” police said in a statement.

According to local media, the man has been in prison for just over a year. He was sentenced to three and a half years in prison.

The man turned himself in to police in De Why, near Sydney’s northern beaches, on Sunday. He’s been living there undiscovered since 1992.

The man will appear in court later this month.
