The heat wave spreads across three provinces and two Arctic regions in western Canada. In addition to British Columbia, heat warnings have been issued for Alberta, parts of Saskatchewan, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories. “A long, dangerous and historic heat wave will continue this week,” Meteorological Canada told Environment Canada.

The highest temperature ever recorded in Canada was on July 5, 1937, when it hit 45 degrees in two cities in Saskatchewan, a record likely to be broken again in the coming days. “It’s much warmer in parts of western Canada than in Dubai,” said David Phillips, chief climate scientist at Environment Canada.

The northwestern United States is also suffering from a heat wave. In Portland, Oregon, the mercury rose to nearly 45 degrees. The US Meteorological Service has reported an “unprecedented and dangerous” heat wave that will continue for several more days.
