New Delhi: The Madras High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the Ministries of Electronics, Information Technology and Broadcasting regarding a petition filed by the Digital News Publishers Association, an association of 13 major media companies, challenging the constitutional legitimacy of information technology. 2021 rules.

The petition claims that the new rules violate Articles 14 (Equality), 19(1) and 19(1)(g) of the Constitution. According to the petitioners, Chief Justice Sanjeeb Banerjee and Judge K. s. Ramamoorthy seat took note. Rule 16 gives the Secretary of Information and Broadcasting the power to withhold any information without hearing it as a temporary measure. The court rejected the union supporters’ call for restrictions on the central government to take any action under the rules, saying that no action had been taken against the petitioners so far. If the Center takes such action, the petitioners are permitted to appeal the interim injunction.
