In turn, Latvijas Pasts will continue to deliver items according to currently valid address index areas – no changes are planned.

Along with the territorial administrative reform, Latvijas Pasts calls on all users of postal services – natural and legal persons – to take care of the correct registration of addresses if the name of the respective province changes in the course of the reform.

“A more accurate address history will help items be processed faster, without delaying the overall mail exchange process,” says Gundeja Varba, Head of External Communications Management at Latvijas Pasts.

“It is a good idea to present the record of the new address or the new name of the county already now, in order to make it easier to get used to it,” notes J. Farba.

After the repair, Latvijas Pasts employees will have to pay more attention to sorting items. The Company encourages customers to make appropriate changes to recipient address records, including online store profiles, so that mail can be processed faster and more accurately. Residents of new counties should also remember the correct record when subscribing to the press.

City, parish and index names in address entries will not change after reform. For example, a letter should be sent to Jānis Kalniņš, who lives in “Rozē”, Bunkas Parish, Priekule District, zip code LV-3446. In the future, instead of the Priekule district, the district of South Kurzeme will have to be written, but the name of the parish, house name and zip code will not change.

Farba asserts, “It is very important that in the future the smallest units of title – city, parish and index – be determined precisely.”

Latvijas Pasts states that when referring to the item’s address, the following information must be included: the name / surname of the addressee or the name of the legal entity, street, house and apartment number or house name, city / parish, county, zip code.

After the 2021 municipal elections, there will be 43 municipalities instead of 119.
