Nestlé is investing 117 million Swiss francs (about 105 million euros) to expand its coffee capsule production facility in its home country of Switzerland. The food company announced this on Thursday.
From the factory in Avanche, Nespresso and Starbucks coffee cups are shipped all over the world. Nestlé is pumping more money into the factory to increase production and thus meet the growing demand.
All Nespresso coffees are produced in Switzerland. “We are proud of our ability to continue investing in Switzerland to support the economy, especially in these difficult times,” said Guillaume Le Confe, chief executive of Nespresso. The facility expansion will create 50 additional jobs in the so-called Swiss Food Valley in the canton of Vaud.
Work to expand the facility will begin in the summer. The expansion should be completed by September next year. Nestlé has a total of eleven production sites in Switzerland and four R&D centers.
Nespresso, the company’s coffee capsule subsidiary, employs nearly fourteen thousand people worldwide and more than eight hundred stores in 82 countries. There are 100,000 collection points for recycling used cups. Nestlé does not state which part of the mugs will actually be reused.
