Rescue workers found body parts off the coast of Java, near the site where a plane carrying 62 passengers disappeared shortly after takeoff on Saturday. It is believed that the human remains came from the passengers. A police spokesman in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, said personal belongings had been found.

Many boats and divers went to the site where fishermen had already found wrecks. This includes potential bits of an inflatable slide, cables, and a piece of jeans.

Sriwijaya Air SJ 182 was en route to Pontianak, 700 kilometers to the north, in West Kalimantan Province. The Boeing 737-500 aircraft took off at 1.40pm local time (7.40am Dutch time) for a flight that took about 1.5 hours.

Fifty passengers and twelve crew members were on board the Indonesian airline Sriwijaya Air plane. The last contact with the crew was only 20 kilometers from the airport, when the plane was flying over the sea.

The plane lost an altitude of more than 3,300 meters in less than a minute after takeoff a few minutes after takeoff, according to Flightradar.

It was not clear what happened to the device. Authorities suspect the plane crash.
