Outgoing President Donald Trump is said to be using some of his final weeks in the White House to intensify pressure on Hunter, Biden’s son.

Trump is considering appointing a special advisor to continue the federal tax investigation into the Hunter Biden case.

Trump administration officials and Republicans close to the White House told the AP that Mr Trump had spoken to White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and White House adviser Pat Cipolloni about the potential move.

The pressure for the special council comes after Trump angered after outgoing Attorney General William Barr did not publicly announce the two-year probe into Hunter before the presidential election.

The investigation was exposed by Hunter himself, who announced last week that he was undergoing a federal investigation into his “tax affairs”.

“Yesterday, for the first time, I learned that the US Attorney’s Office in Delaware advised my legal counsel, also yesterday, that they are investigating my tax affairs,” the 50-year-old said in a statement released by Biden-Harris’ transition.

“I take this matter very seriously, but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will prove that I have handled my matters lawfully and appropriately, including the benefit of professional tax advisors.”

The transition in Biden-Harris added, “President-elect Biden is extremely proud of his son, who has fought through tough challenges, including fierce personal attacks in recent months, to come out stronger.”

It is unclear whether incoming caretaker attorney general Jeffrey Rosen will agree with Mr Trump that a special counsel on Hunter is warranted.

According to the Associated Press, Mr Trump is considering sacking Acting Attorney General Rosen if he does not appoint the special counsel and replace him with someone who might as well – although no final decision has been made.

The sources also told the post that the outgoing president is looking into appointing a different special adviser to investigate his as yet unfounded allegations of widespread election fraud.

These reports come just days after Mr. Trump said he was pushing for a declassification of “everything” before he leaves office while continuing his anger against Democrats for alleged “espionage” and “treason.”

Trump shared a tweet from author Todd Starns on Saturday morning saying, “At this point, realDonaldTrump should declassify everything. Everything.”

Mr. Trump added, “I’ve been doing this. I agree!”

Then he went bustle, accusing President-elect Biden and his son, among others, of espionage and treason.

Trump wrote on Twitter: “If Biden gets in, nothing will happen to Hunter or Joe.”

“Barr will do nothing, and the upcoming new batch of party killers will quickly kill everything.

“Same thing with Durham. We caught them cold, spying, betrayal and more (the hard part), but ‘justice’ took too long. It’ll be DOA! ”

The younger Biden came under intense scrutiny last year for his role on the board of directors of Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian gas company, while his father as vice president was responsible for US policy toward Ukraine.

Trump was put on trial last year after allegations that US aid to Ukraine was withheld on the condition that the state investigate Joe Biden and Hunter.

Hunter’s other business dealings, including in China, and his father’s alleged role in them have also come under examination.

Many of these claims were based on a collection of emails, photos, and other documents obtained from an abandoned laptop computer that allegedly belonged to Hunter.

The MacBook Pro was delivered at a computer repair shop in Wilmington, Delaware in 2019 and never received. In the end the computer was legally seized by the owner, and turned over to authorities after he became concerned about the contents.

Some emails and text messages, later confirmed by Biden’s former family business partner, Tony Popolinsky, appear to link Hunter to questionable business deals in China and Ukraine.

The owner later provided a copy of the laptop’s contents to Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani and former White House strategist Steve Bannon, claiming he did so because he was concerned about the authorities not taking action.

Stories of the allegations were then sent to the media in the run-up to the election.
