CNN has learned that more US Secret Service agents have been sent to Wilmington, Delaware, in anticipation of Joe Biden’s potential presidential victory.

Two sources said additional Secret Service agents were sent to Delaware on Thursday, with one law enforcement source telling CNN, “This was to be expected.”

Some context: Upon a presidential victory, USSS details of the President-elect will increase and reflect the size and scope of the President. A source familiar with USSS protocols said additional airspace security measures are also being implemented. The source said Biden’s team has been on alert since last week.

“This is as expected. Actually it’s a little late. “It does not send any specific concern,” said a senior law enforcement official. The official said that enhanced security usually occurs on election night, but that USSS has played so “cautiously” because the agency does not want to be seen as making a decision on the election.

On Wednesday, CNN noted additional security assets in Biden’s motorcade in line with a presidential entourage equipped to deal with a variety of threats and situations and not part of the typical Secret Service teams a candidate receives, in addition to Biden’s original details.

A USSS spokesperson refused to provide additional details, telling CNN, “For operational security reasons, the Secret Service cannot specifically or generally discuss the means, methods, or resources we use to carry out our preventive mission.”

This was first reported by The Washington Post.
