Google revealed an entertaining new way to use its search function to find songs – all you have to do is play the melody.
The search giant launched this feature last week as a way for people to track down songs they don’t know their name.
You can humming, whistling or singing the song through the company’s search app and it will recognize it. If you have an Android phone, you can also use Google Assistant to do the same.
Metro had tried it ourselves, and although we were off the hook, Google still chose it.
On your mobile device, open the latest version of the Google app or search for Google search, tap the microphone icon and say “What is this song?” Or click the button “Search for a song”, Google explained.
Then start buzzing for 10-15 seconds. On Google Assistant, it’s that simple. Say, “Hey Google, what’s this song?” Then hum to the melody. This feature is currently available in English on iOS, and over 20 languages on Android. We hope to expand this to include more languages in the future.
The search giant continued: “ After the humming is finished, our machine learning algorithm helps identify potential matching songs. And don’t worry, you don’t need a perfect presentation to use this feature. We’ll show you the most likely options based on the melody.
Then you can select the best match and explore information about the song and artist, view any accompanying music videos or listen to the song on your favorite music app, find lyrics, read analysis, and even see other recordings of the song when available.
