British Columbia health officials announced 105 new cases of COVID-19 and another death on Tuesday.
In a written statement, Regional Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said there are 1,268 active cases of people with COVID-19 in British Columbia, down nearly 200 from last week.
There are 69 people in hospital, up eight from last Tuesday. Twenty of them are in intensive care.
The single death reported on Tuesday occurred in the Fraser Health District, bringing the province’s total death toll to 234.
Public Health is actively monitoring 3,337 people across the province who are in self-isolation due to exposure to COVID-19.
Henry announced that a new outbreak has been confirmed at the Harrow Park Long-Term Care Center in Vancouver. This is not the first time that the Coronavirus has spread to the West End Care Center.
Currently, there are 14 outbreaks in long-term care or assisted living facilities and three in acute care facilities.
In a statement on Tuesday, Henry took a minute to again share some tips on what Thanksgiving should look like this year.
“We had to change our celebrations and private gatherings to keep the people we care about,” she said.
“This same approach is the way we need to celebrate Thanksgiving this year. Instead of traveling to see friends or hosting a great family dinner, keep it small this year and plan to connect virtually instead.”
She says this is a unique time and we need to discover new and safe ways to show that we care for our loved ones.
Emergency
British Columbia extended a state of emergency in the province on Thursday, which allows health and emergency department officials to use exceptional powers in responding to the epidemic in the province.
The new extension will run until October 13.
British Columbia declared a state of emergency for the first time in March after Dr Henry declared a public health emergency.
Meanwhile, cases in Quebec and Ontario rose to record levels this week. Experts believe the numbers will continue to rise there over the next few weeks. The numbers prompted tougher measures in the region’s most populous areas.
