Still in Victoria, here is the link to the News Corp story that I mentioned a few posts ago about a woman who “uprooted” the police from her car at a checkpoint.

This comes after the state’s chief minister, Daniel Andrews, said Police checkpoints can be reinforced on major roads outside Melbourne To ensure that people do not leave the city for regional areas before some restrictions are lifted in the country. The relaxation of the rules means people can go out for a meal or visit a coffee shop.

“It might take it to a new level to make sure that those who just desperately need to travel to Victoria do so,” he said.

    Victoria Roadmap to exit lockdown

Victoria officially begins its “Road Map” exit from the epidemic tomorrowAs Melbourne enters the “first step” in the multi-month plan to ease restrictions, my colleague writes Matilda Bosley.

A number of small changes will take effect at midnight in Australia’s second largest city, including postponing the curfew from 8 PM to 9 PM.

The exercise time will also be extended to two hours. Previously only two people were allowed to go out together and now this has returned to either a full family or a maximum of two people from different families.

You will also technically be able to meet someone from another home outside for recreational reasons instead of just playing sports. (Basically, you can sit at opposite ends of a park bench with a friend instead of just going for a walk.)

Single parents and those who live alone can also start visiting their designated families starting tomorrow.

Meanwhile, provincial Victoria will enter a “second step” as childcare centers and hairdressers will reopen, and retail can continue with density restrictions.

Also, a maximum of five people, who form two families, will now be allowed to meet abroad for recreational reasons.

Australian diplomats have been dispatched to London’s Heathrow Airport to help Australian citizens stranded and forced to camp at the airport so they can return home.

Thousands are stranded abroad because the number of people allowed to enter Australia has been determined in order to administer quarantine arrangements.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, there are now more than 25,000 Australians overseas who have registered an intention to return home, but cannot access the flights due to strict government restrictions on international access.

Here is the full story from my colleague Elias Visuntai:

Young people in England – and possibly some older adults – have generally not responded to government warnings not to go out and party in large groups before the new restrictions on gatherings.

Pictures from Leicester Square in central London showed people in large groups enjoying the city nightlife.

They come after another day of protests in Melbourne on Saturday amid growing discontent with restrictions on normalcy.

Prime Minister Daniel Andrews said road checkpoints may be ramped up to ensure that Melbourne residents do not flee to the country.

On Sunday, News Corp. media released footage of a woman being pulled out of her car by a police officer at a car checkpoint 45 kilometers north of Melbourne.

The footage indicates that she refused to give her name to the officer and was forcibly removed from the car after she refused to get out on her own, saying that she felt insecure.
