The first thing we’ll see is why Wi-Fi is faster on mobile phones than on computers, with an explanation of their possible causes. Then we present a series of possible solutions that will help us solve this problem.

Reasons to increase Wi-Fi speed on mobile phone

What we need to do to be clear about our expectations of what we can expect in terms of the speed of our devices, is to know their wireless specifications. Here we must look at the regulations it supports and the theoretical maximum speed that it can reach, for example, 802.11ac. Also the bands it can work in, the normal thing is that it can work in both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Then we have to know these aspects in the following equipment:

    1. Router.
    2. This is a desktop computer or laptop.
    3. Smartphone El.

A case that explains why Wi-Fi on a smartphone works faster than on a computer may be due to a simple case configuration error. Thus, we may have a computer connected to the 2.4GHz band, which is slower, instead of the 5GHz band. And after that, we simply connect to it and we will have to enter the password if we have not done this before. This failure is very common when we are relatively close to the router.

On the other hand, this failure can happen in reverse if we are too far from the router. In this case, the speed of 2.4GHz band connections that better support distance in specific situations can exceed 5GHz. Therefore, a very common error that we usually encounter is Wrong choice of band. You may be interested in knowing some solutions to solve internet speed problems.

The other case is that they have very different wireless capabilities in which the router was not a limiting factor. This may happen when:

    1. The smartphone supports the same Wi-Fi standard as the router or higher.
    2. This computer has an adapter with a lower Wi-Fi standard than a router.

How to make your PC get the same speed as your mobile phone

The reason why Wi-Fi is faster on a smartphone than on that computer is obvious. It’s clearly not equipped with the hardware to be able to connect at this speed. The item that does not allow us to do this is a Wi-Fi network adapter for your desktop or laptop computer. Then after making the replacement, if we do not get the desired results, it may be because the device is too old. Therefore, putting in a late-model Wi-Fi adapter is not always the answer. Before buying anything, the ideal solution would be to run a network cable speed test to see what speed it can reach at most.

In relatively recent laptops that still do well, we often find that their Wi-Fi card supports 802.11n. This means that it only supports the 2.4GHz band and will not be able to use the 5GHz band which provides a higher speed. We can also get lower Wi-Fi speed related to sync speed.

In short, if we wanted to get more speed in these teams, we would buy:

    • PCI Express mini laptop motherboard compatible card.
    • Wi-Fi PCI Express network card for desktop computer.
    • USB 3.0 Wi-Fi adapter, which we can use in both desktop and laptop computers. At a minimum, the ports should be USB 3.0, otherwise we will not be able to achieve speeds higher than about 300Mbps.

As you have seen, the reasons for making Wi-Fi faster on mobile than on PC usually relate to a configuration error or an outdated Wi-Fi network card in the laptop, we must take into account the note that smartphones change frequently, every two or three years Years, however, we usually change laptops about every 5 or 7 years.
