US space tourists return to Earth after 3-day flight with SpaceX: ‘proof that space belongs to each of us’

US space tourists return to Earth after 3-day flight with SpaceX: ‘proof that space belongs to each of us’

They were billionaire Jared Isaacman, 38 – a civilian pilot who also has experience in combat aircraft and served as mission commander – and 51-year-old civilian pilot and geology professor Sian Proctor, 29, Hayley Arsenault – a medical assistant at St. Jude Research Hospital. Kids in Memphis, Tennessee — and 42-year-old data engineer Chris Sembrowski.

The entire flight was controlled from the ground and by means of an automated system on board, the space tourists did not have to drive the capsule themselves. The four underwent several months of intensive training, similar to NASA astronauts, in emergency situations.

In total, the members of the expedition circled the Earth for three days. At a speed of nearly 30,000 kilometers per hour, the spacecraft took about 90 minutes per orbit. The crew reached an altitude of 585 kilometers, which is higher than the International Space Station (ISS). The last time people went this far was in 2009.

During their trip, the quartet also performed some health experiments that were paid for by SpaceX, among others. They also set up activities for the care of St. Jude’s Hospital. According to SpaceX, there were only a few minor issues during the flight, which were easily resolved.
