Ukrainian units appear to have destroyed a Russian system that can jam radio and GPS signals. A video is said to show the attack.
Ukraine says it has dealt a strong blow against the Russian attackers. Army special forces destroyed an electronic warfare system near Zaporizhya in early April, the military said on Facebook. It was discovered by an aircraft during a reconnaissance mission and then subjected to a missile attack.
Videos on Telegram and YouTube show how the regime is supposed to hide in the forest, and a short time later there is an explosion. There is currently no independent confirmation that the system has been destroyed.
According to the military website “Armyrecognition”, the R-330 Zhitel system consists of a truck that can carry four people and is equipped with all kinds of electronic devices, and a trailer. Trucks and trailers are equipped with multiple antennas.
According to the specialized military website, these devices have several functions. They can collect electronic signals, such as radio traffic, and from devices that use satellite signals. It can also determine the direction from which signals are coming. They can then be disabled using on-board transmitters of the system.
The system can misdirect drones
The system should be able to cover a radius of 20 to 30 kilometers. Within this, Ukrainian artillery systems may face problems if they want to use GPS data. This also applies to drones, which are becoming increasingly important for Ukraine. Due to interference, targets cannot be accurately detected and the aircraft becomes disoriented. It is also possible to disrupt soldiers' communications via mobile phone networks, according to the system's description.
It should be ready for use within 40 minutes and can run for days thanks to the diesel generator. Last year, Ukraine managed to destroy three such systems in one day, reports the online service Noel Reports.
