Anyone planning a trip to Palma de Mallorca should definitely look out for a new thief scam: according to the police, thieves are increasing around the promenade with e-scooters.

With calm companions, but at speeds of up to 25 kilometers per hour, they can sneak up on passers-by unnoticed. They usually snatch the mobile phone from their hands. The thieves are then unable to follow the e-scooters on foot.

As the newspaper “Bild” writes, many German tourists report such incidents. “They don’t stop at the adults either. They are unscrupulous, they don’t think. They do what they do here and drag everyone in, »explains one of those affected.

The German promoter who knows the Malle scene also belongs to the stolen. Went for a casual walk in Playa de Palma during the day. He was looking at Instagram stories on his cell phone when suddenly two strangers with e-scooters came up from behind.

“You couldn’t hear the mopeds at street level. They grabbed the cellphone and gave full speed, to the left, to the right—the cellphone away,” he explains. Many of his acquaintances had already told him about such actions, which is why he went straight to the police.

“I’ve been here twenty times and nothing ever happened. But I didn’t expect these e-scooters, ”says another affected person. At first I wanted to run after them, but friends stopped me. Who knows what’s in their pockets.

A request from the German newspaper to the local police and the city of Palma remained unanswered. We’ve heard about this kind of theft. This type of crime is new,” explains a spokesperson for the Palma Beach Initiative.

You are in dialogue with the police. “To inform tourists of this new scam and see how we can solve the problem.”
