The University of Prague cancels bachelor’s theses due to artificial intelligence

The University of Prague cancels bachelor’s theses due to artificial intelligence

Theodore Meeks, December 5, 2023

The Business School of the Prague University of Economics has decided to abolish traditional bachelor’s theses. The university justifies this step by continuing to develop artificial intelligence and increasing the risk of plagiarism. This was reported in the Czech edition of Forbes magazine.

But artificial intelligence is not the only problem. “Currently, student work is more likely to be done by a professional agency, rather than by artificial intelligence,” explains the college’s dean, Jiri Hnelika. There are more and more such “ghost writers” in the Czech Republic and around the world.

But: “The emergence of artificial intelligence was just another incentive for us to change the system.” Traditional work is becoming less important these days.

Instead, the university plans to make bachelor’s degree requirements more practical. This would leave less room for plagiarism. Instead, it provides students with more useful experience for their later careers – as opposed to a job.

The duration of a bachelor’s degree ranges between three and four years depending on the country and program of study. There are different types of bachelor’s degrees. These include the Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BS) and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA).
