The United States has experienced its warmest winter on record, NOAA reported on Friday. The average temperature during the winter in the United States, excluding Alaska and Hawaii, was 3.1 degrees Celsius, the agency said.
“Continued warmth” has caused “continued shrinkage of the ice cover” in the Great Lakes region of the northern United States. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said the ice cover reached an all-time low in mid-February.
Last month, a massive fire also broke out in Texas. The fire burned more than 430,000 hectares and became the largest fire ever in the southern state.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) described last February as the third warmest February on record in the United States. The US agency has data from the past 130 years.
The European Copernicus Earth Observing Program reported earlier this week that the past three months have been the warmest on record on Earth. February broke the heat record for the ninth month in a row.
