11:58 Despite a poor European championship, the Netherlands moved up two places in the FIFA world rankings this summer. In the previous standings, Louis van Gaal’s team was still 16th, but due to three victories in the final tournament this summer, the Orange team climbed to 12th.
The Orange team had a bad European Championship though, as the Czech Republic were too strong (0-2) in the eighth finals after an unfortunate red card for Matisse de Ligt. Then the national team coach Frank de Boer drew his conclusions and left behind Van Gaal, who will begin his mission with his team in twelfth place in the world rankings to reach the World Cup in Qatar.
Despite the equally disappointing European Championship, Belgium still leads the standings, above Brazil (losing the Copa America final) and France (the eighth final eliminating Switzerland). Prior to the final tournaments, those teams were still number three and two. Qatar (+16 places) is the most ascended, and Thailand (-14 places) the most down in the new list.
Argentina and Italy (with the most points) – the winners of the main summer tournaments – are currently fifth and sixth in the standings. During the previous measurement in May, they were still number seven and eight in the FIFA standings. America and Mexico, Gold Cup finalists, are the only newcomers in the top ten, replacing Denmark (11) and Uruguay (13th).
