Last week, Nieuwe Haven Station Police, in cooperation with the departments of the Motor Vehicle Surveillance Service (MSD) and the Automatic Number Plate Registration System (ANRS), conducted a large-scale security check in the context of “Operation Zero Tolerance” in Suriname.

During the inspection, as I ordered the drivers to monitor traffic congestion during the inspection, the bus driver took matters into his own hands. He escaped from the bus and left it with the engine running and the passengers on board.

The police also monitored various violations, including:

    • Not having a driving license
    • Driving outside the specified category
    • Expiration of inspections and insurance
    • There is no bus permit.

In addition to the fines imposed on the spot, 24 drivers who had previously been convicted of previous violations were also suspended. They were given the opportunity to pay their fines immediately, in cash or through point-of-sale devices.

A total of SAR 14,025 was collected from fines paid by the convicted directors. The amount of the summary proceedings that remains to be settled by the Public Prosecution has been set at 79,600 Saudi riyals.

The police warn drivers to adhere to traffic rules. “Your safety is important, but so is the safety of other road users.”

Operation Zero Tolerance takes strict action against violators to ensure safety on the road. This measure is part of ongoing police efforts to increase road safety in the New Haven area. More of these tests will be conducted in the coming period.
