NS today confirmed to Volkskrant that the train will no longer run directly to Basel, Switzerland, after this summer. German Railways previously informed Treinreizen.nl that the train will no longer run to the Netherlands.

    Work first

It was known in advance that there would be work between July 16 and mid-December, which would prevent the train from running.

“It is still unclear what the schedule will be after work,” can be read on the NS International website. According to the Volkskrant newspaper, the train, which has been running daily from the Netherlands to Switzerland for nearly a hundred years, will no longer return.

Anyone who wants to travel directly to Switzerland will soon no longer be able to take the Austrian Nightjet train.

    Longer on the road

During the day you will stay on the road longer without direct contact. ICE International traveled to Switzerland in just over six and a half hours. Last year, our travel editor went by train with us.

NS employees told NS that the Netherlands would have liked to maintain contact, but Deutsche Bahn decided differently. Starting next year, it may be replaced by a direct train from Amsterdam to Munich. “We see that there is increasing demand for Munich,” says a spokesman for the National Assembly.

    Foreign carriers

Most international train connections from the Netherlands are operated by foreign railways. For example, the French take a high-speed train to Paris, and the British take the Eurostar to London. The newspaper wrote that NS runs its own trains only to Brussels.
