The United States and the United Kingdom want to settle the dispute over import tariffs on steel and aluminum. The states began talks about this on Wednesday. The Trump administration has introduced tariffs on steel and aluminum. And they said in a statement that the countries are determined to work for a quick result.

Under Donald Trump, the United States has imposed import duties on many allies. For example, as of June 2018, import tariffs of 25 percent on steel and 10 percent on aluminum were applied. Trump said he was acting for reasons of national security. Critics rejected this claim.

Trump’s whims have created friction with trading partners of the United States, including the United Kingdom. Then the British retaliated.

According to Wednesday’s statement, overproduction of minerals is largely blamed on China. US Trade Envoy Catherine Taye and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo held a virtual meeting with British Secretary of State for International Trade Anne-Marie Trevelyan. She promised to find “effective solutions”.

Washington reached a quota agreement with the European Union in October to eliminate tariffs. Talks with Japan began in November.
