The world's best-selling electric car Tesla Model Y is now also available in Germany in the Maximum Range version only with rear-wheel drive, offering a range of up to 600 kilometers (WLTP).
The “new” Model Y costs 48,990 euros and is positioned by Tesla between the version with rear-wheel drive for 44,990 euros and the two more expensive variants with range limit and all-wheel drive for 54,990 euros and the Performance with all-wheel drive for 54,990 euros. Of all the Y models, the new version offers the longest range at 600 km, the other versions have 455 km (rear-wheel drive), 533 km (long-range 4-wheel drive) and 514 km (high-performance 4-wheel drive), so at best 67 less Kilometers.
According to information on Tesla's website, the new Model Y can be ordered now and is expected to be delivered to buyers within two to four weeks.
The version was previously available in the USA
However, the version with a range of up to 600 kilometers is new only in Germany and Europe, and was previously available in other countries such as the United States of America, although Tesla no longer provides it there. In the USA, the three models previously offered in this country are currently available to choose from.
Aside from the new combination of a larger battery and rear-wheel drive only, the updated Model Y is identical to previous configurations. Extras such as colors other than white cost €1,300 or €2,600, 20-inch wheels €2,200 and a white interior €1,200. Tesla charges €3,800 for Enhanced Autopilot and “full self-driving capabilities” costs €7,500.
The Model Y doesn't yet offer new features from the Model 3
The changes that Tesla introduced to the new Model 3 aka Highland last fall have not yet been integrated into the Model Y. There, new headlights, taillights and aprons make the new version look sleeker. Tesla also explained at the launch that higher range was achieved due to updated exterior design with improved aerodynamics.
The new interior features adjustable interior lighting and, as in the S model, there are ventilated front seats that can be pre-cooled using a smartphone. At the back, a new 8-inch screen is used for air conditioning and entertainment. Two phones can be charged in parallel in the charging holder on the front. The 360-degree acoustic glass should also ensure a quieter interior. However, the indicator stalks have been deleted, and instead there are two buttons on the left side of the steering wheel, which has also been slightly modified.
