Heesen yacht construction suppliers shun Russian owner
Dutch luxury yacht manufacturer Heesen Yachts cannot acquire all the equipment needed to build new ships due to the sanctions imposed on the owner Vagit Alekperov. Alekperov is on the UK and Australian sanctions lists, as a result of which British engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce no longer supplies the company from Oss.
“A number of our suppliers are bound by UK laws. As a result, some of them are unable to meet their obligations,” a spokeswoman said.
Russian billionaire Alekperov is one of three so-called ultimate beneficial owners of Heesen yachts. That is, he controls the company in the end. Recently, a brief lawsuit was filed because the notary did not want to cooperate in the transfer of Alekperov’s shares to an enterprise. This deal should prevent problems due to the sanctions imposed on the billionaire, but the notary was afraid to evade European sanctions himself. The judge agreed with her.

Hessen felt that the civil law notary should have taken into account other factors, such as impending bankruptcy. According to the company, such bankruptcy is not immediately a problem. A spokeswoman said Heesen, which has about 1,000 employees in the Netherlands, is financially healthy.
Alekperov was a former deputy oil minister of the Soviet Union and made a fortune from the Lukoil oil company he founded. Recently, the businessman resigned from the position of CEO of the company.
