Siemens Games’s first wind turbine equipped with RecyclableBlades is now producing power at RWE’s offshore wind power project in Kaskasi, Germany.

Located 35 kilometers north of the island of Helgoland in the German North Sea, the 342MW offshore wind project in Cascaisi will include 38 Siemens Gamaza 8.0-167 DD wind turbines. A number of these turbines will be equipped with handcrafted Siemens Gamasa B81 RecyclableBlades blades, 81 meters long.

Wind turbine blades are manufactured from a mixture of materials embedded in resin to form a strong and rigid structure. According to Siemens Gamesa, the use of its technology makes it possible to fully recover parts of the code and thus stimulate the circular economy. With a mild acidic solution, the parts can be separated into resin, wood, fiberglass, and more.

The recyclable blade technology is developed in Aalborg (Denmark), the blades are manufactured in Hull (UK) and the ball bearings are manufactured and installed in Cuxhaven (Germany).
