An Italian passenger caused a delay on an Iberia flight from Turin to Madrid after a phone conversation with his girlfriend.

The Air Nostrum Mitsubishi CRJ1000, registered EC-MJQ, was about to taxi to the runway at Turin Airport last week. One of the passengers was still having a phone conversation at the time. My fellow travelers noticed that the person the man was talking to said the following: “Don't leave, stay with me in Turin.” The ruling ultimately delayed Iberia flight IB8767 by more than an hour.

As soon as the machine started moving, the Italian stood up and shouted: “Stop everything, I have to get out.” The other passengers started a discussion with the man and stressed the consequences that his actions on the flight might have. He looked very nervous and was determined to get off the ship. After a second discussion with the crew, it was decided to take a taxi back to the gate so the man could get off. The remaining passengers reportedly made no complaints about the disturbance.

The Italian, who left the field, was not fined for his actions. According to the airport operator, the man had the right to disembark before take-off. The plane was eventually delayed for the rest of the day.
