Omroep Flevoland – News – Judge: The project developer is allowed to build a conference center on the water opposite Zeewolde

Omroep Flevoland – News – Judge: The project developer is allowed to build a conference center on the water opposite Zeewolde

Jeffrey Clark, June 5, 2024

It seems that the planned conference center and hotel in Wolderwijd, opposite Zeewolde, could be built after all.

The complex in Strandhurst near Ermelo was supposed to have already been built, but there was a legal dispute between the project developer and the site owner, delaying the plans for years.

The court in Guilderland has now put an end to that battle. Developer Van den Brink may still be implementing his plans.

The municipality of Zeewolde, the RCN Holiday Park, Wolderwijd Marina and others have previously objected to the plans but to no avail. They fear their view will be ruined by the arrival of the convention center and hotel.

Flevoland resistance
The hotel's rise in particular sparked resistance on the Flevoland coast. Zeewolde spoke of “dangerous pollution on the horizon.” The holiday park and marina were also afraid of noise pollution.

The Council of State rejected Flevoland's objections in 2021. According to the highest administrative judge, the municipality of Ermelo acted carefully when granting the permit, as it is an important project for that municipality, and Zeewolde is too far from Strandhorst to be disturbed by noise or the ruined view.

delay
The fact that construction has not begun in recent years is because the developer felt that landowner Leisurelands was beginning to interfere too much with the plans.

Furthermore, the letter of intent concluded by the two parties had already expired in 2014 and had not been extended, and Leisurelands felt that the developer should better investigate the financial viability of the project.

The judge has now ruled that Leisurelands must make the land available for building and must do so largely on the basis of the latest agreements in place such as those in place in 2014.
