The New York Giants sacked offensive line coach Mark Colombo. Replaced by longtime NFL frontline coach Dave DeGuglielmo, Tom Bellisero was the first to report.

Colombo and DeGuglielmo were both considered for the job in January after Judge became Head Coach. The judge eventually picked Colombo, whose only experience as a coach for the NFL attack line with the Dallas Cowboys, over Dieguglielmo.

The Giants invested heavily in their line of attack during offseason. They rotated Andrew Thomas No. 4 overall, tackling Matt Burt in the third round and goalkeeper Shane Lemieux in the fifth round. They also carried Nick Gates into the middle and veteran dealer Cameron Fleming signed.

The Giants got the ball better in recent weeks, but remained last in the NFL on ESPN’s pass-block win rate statistic, winning only 44 percent of the time in pass blocking situations.

Lemieux has struggled hard as a pass blocker since entering the field early in the eighth week when Will Hernandez entered his Reserve / COVID-19 list. His focus on professional football of 9.2 as blocker is worse than any goalkeeper in the league who has played at least 100 attack shots.

Thomas’s overall play, though, was the most disturbing. The novice left tackle lost the most pressure in any league tackle (44) and the PFF’s pass-through efficiency score of 93.1 was the worst in the league. As a line overall, the Giants rank 31st on the PFF’s pass-blocking efficiency measure.

There was an admission from Colombo that Thomas was working on new blocking techniques which he did collectively in Georgia. There was also a recent report from Matt Lombardo of FanSided stating that Thomas’ improved performance in the past few weeks coincided with his abandonment of those changes and returning to group pass sets.

After the Colombo shooting, Mike Jaravolo recalled his earlier reports that the judge had been spending increasing time in recent weeks training his offensive line himself.

DeGuglielmo’s first NFL job was as Frontline Assistant and Quality Control Coach for Giants from 2004-2008.

Since leaving the Giants he has been coach of the offensive line with the Miami Dolphins (three times), the New York Jets, the New England Patriots, the San Diego Chargers (where he was the assistant coach of the OL) and the Indianapolis Colts.

Judge and DeGuglielmo were on the New England coaching staff together in 2014 and 2015.

Garafiolo also reports that the giants ‘initial plan was to have DeGuglielmo on board to consult with Colombo, but’Colombo’s reaction to the news Led to his dismissal. “

So Bellisero mentioned Judge appointed DeGuglielmo as counsel a week ago And it was supposed to start once testing for COVID-19 was completed.
