New iCloud.com services thanks to iOS 17 and Sonoma

New iCloud.com services thanks to iOS 17 and Sonoma

Theodore Meeks, October 5, 2023

iCloud.com Update: Apple has updated its web apps for its internal cloud services. The goal is to be able to use the new apps and options in iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS 14 aka Sonoma via the browser. There are also new setup and customization options aimed at simplifying use.

Reconfigured interface

You can now configure so-called tiles – for example, photos, inboxes, notes, or other content that can be displayed directly on the iCloud.com home page. There is a layout menu at the bottom left of each tile. Quick actions are also supported through tiles. For example, you can preview a file in iCloud Drive, flag an email, or mark a reminder as complete. Browser notifications for mail and calendar can now be activated on your computer. There are also new designs (thankfully they haven’t changed much) in Reminders, iCloud Drive, Calendar, and Contacts, among other things.

The Mail app on iCloud.com now has the Undo Send feature for emails, as it’s known from Mac and iPhone devices. You can also use attachments directly from iCloud. Calendar now lets you set invitation sending addresses (including a custom domain).

Tidy your iCloud Drive and multimedia

But that’s not all with the new convenience functions available on the web. iCloud Drive gets list view, file preview via Quicklook (space bar), and new access rights options. The Photos app displays Memories in full screen and slideshows in the browser. The Notes app features linked notes, improved searching, and shared folders. Reminders can now edit dates, locations, flags, and more directly in the browser.

All in all, a nice set of innovations. Functionality can be accessed as usual by visiting iCloud.com and signing in with your Apple ID. An overview of supported browsers can be found in the support document. If you don’t want your iCloud data to be accessed via the web – for security reasons, for example – you can deactivate the function in iCloud Settings.
