Verstappen’s current contract, which started with Red Bull at the age of 16, runs until the end of 2023. Verstappen made his Formula 1 debut in 2015 with Toro Rosso, Red Bull Racing’s sister team. That season, fourth place in Hungary and the United States was the best result for the Dutch player, who moved to Red Bull a season later.

“I am really proud to announce that Red Bull will be my home until at least 2028,” Verstappen wrote on Twitter. “I love this team and I am very happy to continue this wonderful journey that we have been on for so long. We have already achieved a lot together, but we are definitely not finished yet.

In 2016, Verstappen, who is said to have €40-45m a year off his new contract, immediately won his first race for his new team in Spain. It was the starting signal for a successful collaboration. The counter now stands at twenty Grand Prix victories and of course a world title. Verstappen took over this last year after a stunning final race in Abu Dhabi, only beating Lewis Hamilton on the last lap.

Immediately after winning this world title, Verstappen has already expressed his desire to continue with Red Bull for a longer period: “Can we continue to do that in the next 10 or 15 years?” The Dutchman rejoiced at the time. “Red Bull feels like family,” Verstappen later said.

Helmut Marko, CEO of Red Bull, also expressed his desire to continue with Verstappen for a longer period: “Max is the fastest, most consistent and most aggressive driver ever. I see parallels with the late Ayrton Senna, who had the same mentality, personality and aggressiveness.” We can consider ourselves lucky to have Max in our stable.”
