Previous results offer good hope for Lewis Hamilton as the US Grand Prix approaches the proverbial door. In the previous edition in 2019, Bottas passed Hamilton a few laps before the end of the race, which he won. Hamilton claimed his sixth world title as a Formula 1 driver by finishing second. So the Briton cherishes warm memories at Circuit America in Austin.
So the British Mercedes driver feels like a fish in the water in the land of freedom and unprecedented possibilities. Last year the US Grand Prix was canceled due to COVID. Hamilton: “It’s great to be back in two years. I’ve already had a very warm welcome from some of my fans from Mexico. There are great, great memories here.”
Hawaii
Hamilton praises the environment of the circuit, but he also praises the audience that usually comes to the US Formula 1 Grand Prix. According to Hamilton, he is very excited to see everyone back in the stands along the track this weekend. During press talks on Thursday, Hamilton was asked about his dream destination in the USA. New York and Hawaii have proven to be Hamilton’s favorite destinations. And because Hamilton also does surfing, he always travels to the pleasant archipelago of Polynesia every January.
Hamilton: “Hawaii is definitely my favorite vacation destination and I want to retire there.”
Hamilton is chasing an eighth world title and will therefore want to confirm his star status once again on American soil. The first free practice for the US Grand Prix will be tonight Dutch time at 6:30pm.
