Charles Leclerc described Ferrari's weekend in Australia as very encouraging, but according to Monaco, it is important not to forget that Red Bull Racing has been superior in two of the past three races.

The Australian Grand Prix was the backdrop to a first non-Red Bull victory since the Singapore Grand Prix in 2023. Max Verstappen retired with a brake issue and Sergio Perez was unable to navigate traffic, but avoided the problems Red Bull Racing looked like fragile in Melbourne. Meanwhile, Ferrari were operating in top form, and were able to turn their suddenly available opportunities into a double for the team, with Carlos Sainz winning the race and Leclerc trailing behind him in second.

    A very important weekend

“This weekend was very important, because it has been a long time since we had really speed,” Leclerc told the media after the race. “I am not saying that we are able to control Red Bull, because we will never know what speed Verstappen was in the race, but from the first free practice we knew that pole position and victory were within reach, because we had great speed and great tire degradation.”

    Maximize with Ferrari

The current second-place finisher in the Formula 1 World Championship continued: “This is very encouraging, but we must not forget that Red Bull was superior in two of the three races. We have a lot of work to do and we are doing it as one team.” “Every time we have the opportunity to win a race, we have to take it. We did that this weekend with Carlos. I finished second and set the fastest lap of the race, taking the remaining points available.”
