You may have heard of Craig Wright. The Australian has been claiming for years that he is none other than Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin (BTC).

In a recent lawsuit filed by the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA), a judge determined that Wright is not in fact Satoshi Nakamoto. Now the judge has also ruled that Wright's bank accounts must be frozen.

The court takes action against the inventor of fake Bitcoin

After the court ruled against Wright, Wright quickly moved the money from the UK to Singapore. The action raised concerns and COPA asked a judge to freeze Wright's assets.

“This understandably raised serious concerns from COPA that Dr. Wright took steps to avoid costs and consequences after losing in court.”And so is the judge.

Yesterday I issued a Global Freezing Order ('WFO') in the amount of £6 million based on an application by COPA against Dr Craig Wright.

COPA's costs in the lawsuit have now risen to more than $8 million. So Wright seems to want to avoid these costs.

COPA was founded in 2020 and consists of 33 members who want to promote the development of crypto technology. Members include Coinbase, Meta, MicroStrategy, Uniswap, and Worldcoin.

What does “fake” Craig Wright do?

As previously mentioned, Wright has been claiming to be Satoshi Nakamoto for years, and thus also claims to have rights to the Bitcoin network. In 2019, he filed a formal application for copyright on the Bitcoin whitepaper. This was unsuccessful.

Although almost no one believed him, Wright did not stop. He has filed numerous lawsuits against people and organizations who said they did not believe him.

In April 2021, COPA filed a lawsuit against Wright. Earlier this month, on March 14, the judge ruled that the evidence “clearly demonstrates that Wright is not Nakamoto.”

What motivates Wright is unclear, but why he wants so badly to make the world believe he is Satoshi Nakamoto is a mystery. And with the judge's latest ruling, we can hope he stays out of the public eye for the time being.
