One cannot be a sovereign and continue to listen to Washington’s nagging at the same time. Every country that claims to be sovereign must manage its own relations and not be subject to the illegal coercive and punitive practices of the United States. Europe must follow its own path and enter into full relations with Cuba. Cooperation between the European Union and Cuba is a win-win situation on many levels. For example at the level of science.
The European regulation known as the “Embargo Law” states that “companies may not apply US laws that impose sanctions, including against Cuba.” Therefore, banks are not allowed to block transfers to Cuba or impose sanctions themselves. However, most Belgian banks do this. This must stop, and it can stop.
International experts and witnesses will speak about this issue, and many other issues. This is all important testimony, and on the basis of it a jury can return a firm verdict.
The ambition of this international anti-blockade tribunal is to help break the stalemate.
It is time for the horrific and illegal blockade to disappear. It is time to remove Cuba from the list of countries supporting terrorism. It is time for Washington to stop dictating what sovereign nations can and cannot do.
It is time for international law to prevail.
