Pixar's new film Inside Out 2 has also broken records in Dutch cinemas, The Walt Disney Company reported on Friday. The sequel to the 2015 film, called Binnenstebuiten 2 in the Dutch version, has been in cinemas since Wednesday.
Inside Out 2 / Binnenstebuiten 2 grossed €360,000 on its first day, surpassing the best opening for Dune II earlier this year. Furthermore, it is the best opening for a Pixar film ever in the Netherlands. This record was previously held by Finding Dory, the sequel to 2016's Finding Nemo.
The success of Inside Out 2 is partly due to the large number of theaters in which the film can be seen. The sequel is being shown in 162 theaters. Never before has a Disney/Pixar film been shown in so many Dutch theaters.
Globally, Inside Out 2, which ran for a month in the US and other European countries, has also broken records. With nearly $1.4 billion in revenue, it is the most successful theatrical release of 2024. Remarkably, the sequel is still in the top three most-visited titles in the US after all these weeks.
The film once again takes place in the head of a girl, Riley, as different emotions try to manage her daily life. When Riley goes to camp, all kinds of new emotions arise that cause complications.
