Today, privacy is no longer a luxury; Rather, it has become an original and a reality by adopting the system for the protection of personal data, including phone numbers, e-mails, and all personal privacy; At a time when the world is racing digitally in the midst of an electronic revolution that invests personal data… you can only register in a commercial or communication platform and request your own number and email; The competition of digitization among the countries of the world is a kind of soft incursion; Until Saudi Arabia felt the need to protect information security, and launched the Cyber Security Authority and others to keep pace with global development and confront this danger.

Those numbers recorded by companies and some government agencies may one day be invested by breaking into your phone on occasions with promotional offers via “spam” messages. The system came to guarantee everyone their privacy and everything related to their digital security, and raise the quality of life for individuals within the Saudi reforms recently approved by the Kingdom through legislation and regulations, sensing the danger of the spread of private data and the danger of using it for improper purposes, as digital security is no less important than health and food security.

For his part, Lawyer Ali bin Muhammad al-Dukkan commented, “After approving the Personal Data Protection Law, the competent authority should educate public and private entities, including ministries, companies, and hospitals, on how to implement the system and how to take the necessary measures to protect individuals’ data.”

He explained, “I had studied the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2016 in a master’s degree research and found that with such a system in place, big tech companies would have to tell people how they handle personal data.”

And he stated: “Saudi Arabia has taken advanced steps in the field of human rights, specifically the basic rights of individuals, whether citizens or residents, to preserve the right to privacy in personal data in this digital age, in which some countries treat their members as mere numbers, while in the Kingdom it was issued on 9/2/ 1443, the Personal Data Protection Law, which ensures the maintenance and preservation of the privacy of personal data of citizens and residents.

He added, “This system has entrusted the competent authority, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority, with the task of implementing the system from the start, and coordinating with all authorities such as the Central Bank and the Communications Commission, while preserving the powers of security authorities such as the National Cyber Security Authority.”

He added: “We heard a month ago that one of the largest social media companies was fined $267 million by a European country because it does not explain to people how it deals with stored data. Indeed, communication companies are often fined billions in this regard.”

And he concluded: “The conclusion is that personal data is – above all – a basic and original right of individuals, which the state has guaranteed to protect in order to preserve the privacy of individuals, and they must be informed of every operation carried out on their data, and their written consent is obtained in the event a third party is informed of it, As for the purposes of benefiting from this data, it is diverse, and it has become a science that is taught in universities.”
