John Gotti was a rather remarkable Godfather, because he always appeared on the scene in a razor-sharp suit looking like a movie star: all the way to the court. Get Gotti is about his success, but it’s also about what ultimately killed him.

The Netflix documentary was produced by the people behind Fear City, so that’s a positive thing. All kinds of images are interwoven in a good way to tell in a very clear and at the same time very interesting way what is happening in terms of police activity and mafia practices that happened around that Gotti. Movies, series and music also often refer to all kinds of things related to Gotti and other mafia men. Situations and names that sound familiar to you will appear. It may be a little more complicated for Americans, but for us outsiders, it’s nice to have a little more context about these true events that are also retold correctly in the movies.

This documentary shows all kinds of people who have lived in New York their whole lives and you can hear it. How some of the words are pronounced, but are also regularly referred to as “Wiseguys”, for example, is very nice. If you like those Eastern US accents, this is a great piece of entertainment.
