Pontz had an excellent year in the United States and qualified for both the Grand Slams and the World Cup at the end of December. He proved he belongs there this week in England. The 44-year-old Colored Arrows player defeated Stephen Ponting and Peter Wright in the group stages and pushed Andrew Gilding aside in the final eight.
The second encounter with Ponting was less good for Pontz. He could compete with Bunting for a long time, but he consistently bowled at a lower rate. With the score 6-6, Ponting attacked 11-6. He never relinquished the lead again.
