howlingAn intimate short film about the emotional impact of divorce and reconfigured families on young children has won an award in the United States.
howling By Laura Van Haecke, it was awarded Best International Short Film at Palm Springs International ShortFest, the largest short film festival in the United States. This was announced by the Flemish Audiovisual Fund (VAF).
The film follows Beau, who moves with her mother (Natalie Broads) and half-sister Rani to her mother’s friend’s country house. There is not much for them to do, Bo and Rani – two sisters in real life – having fun with each other. While Rani spends weekends with her father, Bo’s father continues to fail. She is alone and is looking for comfort in nature. Her father’s absence continues to grunt, but at the same time Beau becomes more independent. The intimate 20-minute film previously screened at Leuven International Short Film Festival and Film Fest Gent.
Three other Flemish short films were also shown in Palm Springs: Versailles by Hyun Lories, Stephanie Leonardo Van Del and Eighteenth by Olivier Lambrechts and Dimitri Baronhead.
